Major Advance in the Integration of Process Control and Production Information Systems, 1990 TAPPI Conference Proceedings
Allen-Bradley Company and Digital Equipment Corporation have joined forces to provide their mutual customers a solution which bridges the gap between process control systems and production management computer systems. This solution, the Pyramid Integrator, provides true integration across a common backplane for all inserted modules including programmable logic controllers, configurable vision systems, and the MicroVAX 2000 information processor. Among the primary benefits of this integrated architecture are, bringing the computing power of the MicroVAX 2000 to the mill floor in industrially hardened packaging, and providing direct access to process data from higher level production management computer systems. The Pyramid Integrator, in a typical application, performs the supervisory tasks of data acquisition, manipulation, presentation, and data communication, for processes being controlled by Allen-Bradley programmable logic controllers.
