Strategic Issues in Process Control for the '90's, 1992 TAPPI Conference Proceedings
This session developed by the TAPPI Process Control Committee as one of the feature technical sessions of the TAPPI 92 Conference is also the Opening Session of the 1992 Process Control Conference. Designed for the corporate and mill manager, the session will address major questions relating to process control in the 90’s:
. Will distributed control systems be replaced by larger central processor systems for regulatory control?
. Is there a place for on-line personal computer applications in our mills?
. What influence will European process control suppliers have in the U.S. marketplace?
. Can quality control initiatives be built into process control and become an everyday mill objective?
. What role will mill-level Information Systems play in the 90’s and can these systems do more than generate reports?
. Are totally-integrated Paper Machine Control Systems with automatic start-up and grade changes a viable opportunity on today’s projects?
. Can we get smarter in engineering these smart systems?
. What is the role of the operator in automation and in implementing a control system?
. Once installed, how can we keep our systems sharp and get our money’s worth out of our process controls?
. Are our mills staffed for the automation needs of the 90’s?
