Communication Papers - 2000: An Uncertain Picture, 1992 TAPPI Conference Proceedings
Preparing a demand forecast for Communication Papers in the year 2000 while facing current social, economic and political uncertainties presents an especially difficult challenge. Volume estimates can be influenced in many ways depending upon developments within and outside the paper industry. In light of this, a decision was made to use historical trend data adjusted for recent and foreseen changes in market requirements and the corresponding paper specifications.
Positive and negative factors which can influence volumes and specifications, e.g., population, literacy, living standards, leisure time and environmental constraints will be cited. Gradual obsolescence of the Groundwood and Woodfree designations is expected. Also, it will be shown that the relationship between Communication Paper volume and economic activity is much more consistent than the Printing and Writing Paper or Newsprint relationships.
