Kraft SWD Yield: Break the Barriers, 1998 Breaking the Pulp Yield Barrier Symposium Proceedings
The improvement in Softwood (SWD) Full Bleached Kraft (FBK) Elemental Chlorine Free (ECF) yield when all known yield enhancements and fiber recovery methods are applied simultaneously in a 1,000 TPD example mill is examined. Wood preparation, chip properties, delignification methods, and bleaching to final product requirement are discussed and evaluated. Delignification processes include the current state of the art designs and novel modifications. A 5% yield increase above the base case is achievable. The manufactured costs are about $60/T below the base case. Some of the methods ate applicable to unbleached pulp, hardwood (HWD), and Totally Chlorine Free (TCF) methods. The design of the mill includes the potential to use whole log chipping.
