Development of Lime Mud Washing Models and Their Use for Mud Washing Supervisory Control, 2000 Engineering Conference Proceedings
Gunnar A. Damström--The primary objective of this work was designig a lime mud washing supervisory control system that would provide lime mud with a washable soda content in the range 0.06%-0.15% Na2O; provide even strength weak wash, provide high process reliability and reduce the operator control actions to a minimum.
Models were developed for different mud washing technologies and verified to accurately predict the washable soda content of the mud cake discharging from pressure disc filter and lime mud precoat filter doctor blades.
A method for benchmarking different brands of lime mud precoat filters and pressure disc filters evolved in the process.
In off-line applications the models are used for operator training. In on-line open loop DCS applications the models are used to provide process overview. The on-line open loop applications can be used to pinpoint out-of-calibration field instruments.
