Transversal Steady-State Permeability of a Fibre Web Compressed Between Rough Permeable Surfaces, 2000 Engineering Conference Proceedings

Hannes Vomhoff, Mark Martinez, Bo Norman--The transversal steady-state permeability of paper webs, compressed between permeable materials with varying roughness, was investigated as a function of grammage. Tests were conducted using six different permeable materials. For grammages between 35 and 140 g/m 2, the permeability decreased by several orders of magnitude with increasing grammage. It levelled off to constant value at higher grammages. The grammage-dependency of the permeability was attributed to a non-uniform compression of the web by the surface-rough permeable materials.
