Cover System - A Roll Cover Project Instrument for Wet Press Paper Machines, 2000 Engineering Conference Proceedings
Ronald Lesley Plaut, Odair Caltabeloti--The understanding of the mechanism as well as the evaluation of the stress / strain state and temperatures observed in the nip of metal rolls covered with elastomeric compounds are of great interest to the de-watering as well as the improvement of paper surface quality - which are the goals of the papermaker and, on the other hand, the performance and durability of the cover- which are the goals of the roll coverer.
Present paper shows the results obtained with the FEM-based “COVER SYSTEM”, in a specific case of a (Jumbo) wet press (double felted, blind drilled) working in the range of 350 – 00 kN/m (2000-2250 pli), for which elastic deflection and roll ovalization have been taken into account in order to calculate the required crowning.
