Highly Corrosion Resistant Metals for the Pulp and Paper Industry, 1990 Engineering Conference Proceedings

Zirconium, titanium and titanium-3% aluminum-2.5% vandium were evaluated for applications in the pulp and paper industry. Test methods were immersion, U-bend and constant strain-rate tests. Zircinium was found to be suitable for handling kraft solutions, alkaline H2O2 solutions and new HC00H-H2O2 pulping solutions. Titanium-3% aluminum-2.5% vanadium and titanium were found to be similar in corrosion properties in chlorine saturated NaC1 solutions. The heat-affected zones of both metals showed some tendency to stress corrosion cracking.
