Development of a Laboratory Test Method for Fireside Corrosion in Kraft Recovery Boilers, 1991 Engineering Conference Proceedings

A laboratory test has been developed which simulates attack by hot gases on boiler tubes. The principal corrosive gases used in the test were either hydrogen sulphide (H2S) or methyl mercaptan (CH3SH) mixed with nitrogen. Analysis of the results was based on comparison of morphological features of the corrosion products, rather than on the actual rates of corrosion. The test results were validated against the corrosion morphology found on a number of unwashed tubes removed from kraft recovery boilers.
