Design Considerations for Ozone Bleachinga: A Guide to Ozone Use, Generation and Handling, 1991 Engineering Conference Proceedings
As paper companies search for new, effective methods of reducing discharge of chlorinated organics from their mills, discussion of ozone as a bleaching agent has increased steadily. This paper deals with some of the engineering design implications that must be considered in an ozone generation and use facility.
The paper is written in two sections. The first section discusses the application of ozone in bleach plants. This includes an explanation of various sequences using ozone and the benefits of these sequences. Application techniques and design parameters are described. The second section addresses the generation and handling of ozone gas. Ozone generation processes are explained, including such aspects as feed gas preparation, ozone generation, vent gas disposal or reuse, and ozone handling. Typical plant operating parameters and costs are presented, and specific metallurgy and safety concerns are addressed.
