Waste Paper Handling Systems in Recycling Plants, 1992 Engineering Conference Proceedings
Facilities processing large quantities of waste fibre require material handling equipment and techniques different than conventional pulp and paper mills. Both discrete and bulk handling conditions often exist and the system can be further complicated by the need to cut, remove and dispose of the wires and straps binding bales and the plastic and other materials in the bales.
The paper discusses system layout techniques and major equipment components for handling used corrugating stock, carton plant clippings, (OCC & CCC) old newsprint (ONP), magazines (OMG) and other materials.
Many types of conveyors are used to handle this material. The most common types including belt, apron, combination chain/belt, steel belt (piano hinge) and others are discussed.
The paper discusses equipment for various other functions occurring ahead of the pulper including weighing, bale reduction, load leveling on conveyors and wire cutting and removal.
