Pulp and Paper Roofing - Considerations and Design, 1992 Engineering Conference Proceedings

Roof failure patterns in the Pulp and Paper industry are both more predictable and more unique than roof failures on other types of manufacturing facilities. In addition, the conditions under which roofs in the Pulp and Paper industry must serve are significantly more severe than in other types of industries. As a result, many "normal" roofing solutions do not provide the Pulp and Paper manufacturers with a satisfactory return on their roofing investments. The purpose of this presentation will be (a) to define those unique conditions which cause failure of Pulp and Paper industry roofs and the effects of these conditions on each roofing component, i. e., decks, vapor barriers, insulations and roofing membranes; (b) once these problems are accurately defined to present information which will allow the architect, engineer and manager to make educated roofing decisions in choosing each component; and (c) to discuss a simple cost analysis formula which will allow a more objective decision to be made regarding final roof component selections.
