Operating Guidelines for Steam Heated Paper Dryers, 1992 Engineering Conference Proceedings

Steam heated paper dryers have been an integral part of the paper making process since paper making became a continuous process. There are dryers in operation today which were manufactured well before the turn of the century which continue to perform their intended function safely, reliably and economically with a minimum of attention. We take their presence for granted until problems arise which affects the operation of the paper machine. This paper discusses the impact of operating practices on the thermal and mechanical loading imposed on paper dryers. Suggested guidelines for safe, reliable operation have been compiled from the recommendations from manufacturers and insurance underwriters as well as mill operating experience.
