Emission Control for Recovery Boilers, 1992 Engineering Conference Proceedings

ABSTRACT Experience at Woodland, ME suggests that total chemistry control of recovery fume is the key for preventing boiler pluggage. Therefore, there is a need for a thorough understanding of emission gases and how their concetration can be managed to control deposit formation. Through training and the use of statistics, recovery boiler operators were able to alter the combustion process in order to meet strict emission requirements. As a result the application of continuous emission monitoring equipment (CEME) has enabled the mill to optimize boiler efficiency with continusous reduction in emission variability and extended operation without plugging.
