Low Differential Rotary Syphon for High Speed Paper Dryer Cylinders, 1992 Engineering Conference Proceedings

A test program was conducted during 1991 and 1992 on a 1.8 m (72 in.) diameter by 8.8 meter (345 inch) face research paper drying cylinder. The program’s objective was to compare the operation of a new rotary syphon developed for high speed machines to a conventional rotary syphon. Syphon flood points and flood recovery points were obtained for various machine speeds, steam pressures, and condensing loads for both syphon designs. The new syphon design showed significantly lower differential pressure requirements.
