Validation Procedure for First Pinciples Process Dynamics Simulation, 1992 Engineering Conference Proceedings

Important criteria for assessing the usefulness of process dynamics simulation include an appropriate method for validating the correctness of the simulation and some means for verifying the accuracy of the simulation. The accuracy required of the simulation depends upon the use(s) for which the simulation is designed.

This paper describes an application of process dynamics simulation and the procedure that was adopted to verify the accuracy of the simulation. A method for computing a statistical metric for quantifying the deviation from actual process behavior is described.

This statistical metric was uniquely used in this application to couple fee payment for the simulator to demonstrated accuracy of the simulation. Use of a performance metric to demonstrate conformance to a performance guarantee may help assure the client that the simulator will perform as specified.
