Results of a Survey of Wet Press Temperature, Loading, and Dryness, 1992 Engineering Conference Proceedings
A 1989/90 survey of wet press performance conducted by the Water Removal Committee received replies for 174 paper and board machines operating in six countries.
The results have been divided into six distinctive grades.
Each point of dryness is approximately equal to an evaporative load of 50 kilograms (112 pounds) water per ton of paper. This is equivalent to 4 percent speed on a dryer limited machine, or an energy cost of $0.50 per ton.
The survey revealed other issues that may be considered more interesting than the reported data. For example, the completeness of the replies varied greatly. Many mills were unwilling or unable to report press operating parameters such as dryness or temperature. Also, national enthusiasm varied, with 56 percent of the Australia/New Zealand mills reporting, as compared with 15 percent for Sweden.
