Fluidized-Bed Combustion of Sludge and Woodwaste, 1994 Engineering Conference Proceedings

D. L. Kraft

This paper describes a waste-to-energy boiler project. This pulp & paper mill has a problem with sludge and wood waste disposal, and not wanting to pay for offsite landfill, a project team was formed to study other options. The conclusion of this study showed burning these waste streams using an atmospheric fluidized bubbling-bed boiler was the economical solution. Included in the paper is a discussion on the options investigated, a description of the bubbling bed process and why it is the proper combustion technology, a boiler description, and pilot test results.
