In-plant Corrosion Testing in Chlorine Dioxide Environments, 1994 Engineering Conference Proceedings

J. Nordstrom, A. Bergquist

Welded coupons of stainless, nickel-base alloys, and titanium have been exposed in various process equipment used for production of, and bleaching with chlorine dioxide. Test locations have included tanks for spent acid from chlorine dioxide production, bleach plant scrubbers, bleaching tower inlets, and bleach washers. The results of ten exposures are discussed in connection with descriptions of the process environments. All tested alloys but two, titanium and stainless steel S32654, have suffered corrosion in at least one test.
