My TAPPI Story: Naomi Gehling
M. J. Anderson, J. Fredrickson, A. K. Jones, M. W. Smart
The replacement of the lower furnace of the James River Marathon chemical recovery boiler is described. The main driver for this replacement was thinning of the water wall tubes; thus corrosion protection was an important design goal. The lower furnace replacement also allowed James River the opportunity to implement state-of-the-are process technology by the first application of chromized waterwall tubing in Canada and the first of a new generation secondary air system anywhere. The Distributed Control System (DCS) was upgrades and the electrostatic precipitator was rebuilt. The performance of the chromizing and high performance secondary air design features will be described along with a brief overview of additional innovative design, construction and project management methods.
