On May 26, 1992, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations 29 CFR 1910.119 for Process Safety Management (PSM) came into effect. These regulations cover the storage, production, and handling of a wide range of hazardous chemicals found within a pulp and paper mill. This paper reviews the scope of the PSM regulations and discusses their application in the pulp and paper industry.
