On-Line Corrosion Monitoring in Kraft White Liquor Clarifiers, 1995 Engineering Conference Proceedings

Corrosion rates of carbon and stainless steels were continuously monitored in two kraft white liquor clarifiers over periods of months via the polarization resistance technique, zero resistance ammetry and gravimetric measurements. The rates of corrosion correlated with feed and production rates of the clarifiers, the sulfidity of the liquor being prepared, and the accumulation of lime mud. The results demonstrate the importance of velocity in corrosion of these tanks, and point to action for mills to take in the prevention of corrosion.
