Water Reuse Through Filtration, 1996 Engineering Conference Proceedings

Jan C. Walter

Ronningen-Petter

As water is used, collected, and reused in the papermaking process, the concentration of suspended solids may increase. This can be detrimental to the paper product or process of papermaking. Filtration, or the physical separation of the unwanted particles from water, is a necessary requirement for its reuse in a paper mill. Various filtration components allow papermakers to use filtration as an aid to water conservation through the reuse of waters used in the papermaking process. Selection of filter type, filter media, filter location, and filter maintenance programs are critical to successful water reuse. Keywords filtration, water reuse, water conservation, media, strainers, pressure filters, gravity filters, saveall.
