The No. 4 paper machine dryers at Sonoco’s Hartsville mill were originally lubricated by brick grease. Re-lubrication of the back side required a shutdown. An automatic lube system was found to be a solution to the wear and other problems. The system is fully adjustable in both the lubrication frequency and lubricant amount. The number of bearing replacements and failures has been drastically reduced since the system installation.
