In today’s economic climate, staff positions such as plant engineers and maintenance personnel are being drastically reduced, increasing the workload on engineers and mainte-nance. In many instances, the focus is away from daily precipitator maintenance, making costly ongoing retraining necessary. Remote diagnostics brings immediate expertise from remotely-located company experts, vendors and consultants to manage electrostatic precipitator equipment. Remote diagnostics is defined as the ability to monitor, control, change equipment parameters, or generate reports from a remote location. Advancements in precipitator control technology and communications capabilities have made it possible to: . Monitor systems . Analyze data . Initiate performance enhancements . Change equipment parameters . Design, change, or update software via telephonic communications as needed The result is an early warning of performance deviations and a shortened response time in identifying and solving problems.
