Preplanning for a Successful Deinking Project at Sheldon, 1996 Engineering Conference Proceedings

The preplanning stages accomplished before and during the initial phases of the Sheldon Recycle Project engineering were major factors in the success of the project. Planning is an important part of anything we do and makes projects or any part of our jobs run smoother. In the Sheldon old newspaper deinking project, we made extra efforts to be certain that we were ready because this was the first deinking plant in Champion. The papermakers did not really want to use the unfamiliar deinked pulp, so we wanted a nearly perfect project. In preparing for this project, the Sheldon team members went through extensive preplanning long before the project was even approved. I would like to discuss these preplanning phases and the way they were used to gain the knowledge necessary for the successful project. The phases I will discuss include the following: • Learning About Deinking • Observing Operating Plants • Pilot Plant Trials • Waste Paper Considerations • West Nyack Laboratory Activities and Support
