There are a number of different ways training can be done. At Champion we use a process titled Operator Skills Training. We gather information for training development no different than any other organization in that we use vendor information, trade journal publications and personal experience. The Champion Operator Skills Training process uses a three phase plan for developing learning guides that can be used in different ways for conducting training. The training process we used consisted of classroom training for a group, personal one-on-one approach training, testing after information is learned and detailed one-on-one, system by system field check outs. The last phase of training after the operator has attained a basic understanding of the equipment, the function of each piece of equipment, how the equipment fits into the overall process is to teach control strategy. Control strategies consist of how to operate each piece of equipment and how it fits into the overall deink operation. The use of the Operator Skills Training process enabled us to get the deink plant started up and running at 75% capacity, producing a quality pulp after only four days of production.
