The Pulp and Paper Industries have long needed a cost effective alternative approach to 3D modeling to obtain true current data of a plant to support revamp design efforts. Full 3D modeling can sometimes take too long or be cost prohibitive. Historically, there was only one choice, to build a plant model either by conventional hand method walkdown or build a full digital 3D CAD model via close range photogrammetry. Visual Database (VDB) provides data in an easily implementable form that allows one to determine the areas of plant requiring full 3D CAD model later when those areas of concern have been more clearly identified. In most cases, then the model scope can be reduced from full to partial requirement.
