Voluntary Protection Program and Roundtable, 1997 Engineering Conference Proceedings
Participation in OSHA’S Voluntary Protection Program is a positive method to formally recognize and reinforce strong and effective safety and health performance. Ten years ago, OSHA recognized that industry could improve worker protection programs and decrease incidents if there was a cooperative effort between OSHA and industry to motivate industry to ever-higher levels of safety performance. This mechanism is enhanced by strong, cooperative efforts between OSHA, management and labor. The process of attaining OSHA Star, the VPP’s highest recognition, requires the utmost levels of management dedication and employee involvement, not to mention near-flawless safety systems and processes that ensure the continual improvement of worker safety and health.
