Update of North America's First Commerical Black Liquor Gasification Plant: Operating Experience and the Future, 1997 Engineering Conference Proceedings

The installation of the first commercial black liquor gasification plant in North America, has started up. Several factors were involved in making the decision to install this new technology. In this paper, we discuss the driving forces for gasification as well as present the operating experience of the black liquor gasification plant. The first product runs were made December 12, 1996. We will cover the status of the and the optimization steps being taken to further the atmospheric gasification technology. Additionally, we will cover pressurized black liquor gasification technology and how gasification can fit into the future pulp mill.
