My TAPPI Story: McKenna Goulette
The effect of blade shape on pressure pulse formation in a twin wire blade former has now been modelled. Very sharp blades produce a pressure distribution characterized by two sharp peaks, one associated with wire wrap around the blade leading edge, and one caused by wire wrap at the trailing edge. Once even a modest amount (less than a millimetre) of blade wear occurs, the initial pressure distribution is modified dramatically to become a broad, single-humped pressure peak.
