Nondestructive Testing Procedure for Composite Boiler Tube Port Mapping Process, 1998 Engineering Conference Proceedings

This presentation will focus on suggested methods and procedures which have been proven successful for determining the condition of stainless steel composite boiler tubes in the various port areas of chemical recovery boilers. Primary, secondary, tertiary, liquor, burner, and other port openings can, by their designed operation, produce corrosion and other undesirable conditions on the tube surface. The paper discusses visual, penetrant, ultrasonic, and magnetic lift-off techniques which help “map” tube condition. A chronological-type reporting format is also offered as a way to track the changing condition of tubes from one inspection to the next.
