Woodyard in S.E. Asia, 1998 Engineering Conference Proceedings

In the early 1990’s, P.T. Kiani Kertas, a company of the Kalimanis group of Indonesia concieved, organized and implemented a project to build a 1500 MT bleached kraft pulp mill located at Kalimantan, Timur, Indonesia. The project was completed in 1997. The plant was engineered and supplied by an international consortium of companies and constructed by an international construction company. This paper will describe the wood receiving, storage, processing and handling system provided to support this pulp mill. It will describe the organization required, the engineering and procurement of equipment and materials, the concept and operating equipment, and the logistical and other challenges required to implement a woodyard project in a remote part of the world.
