Injectable bulk packing materials are engineered as an alternative to conventional braided-type packings and mechanical seals typically used in process pumps and other types of rotating equipment. High performance and high temperature fibers are combined with lubrication packages to form a pliable packing material that is easy to install and maintain. Through a combination of laboratory testing and case histories, we will show that this type of packing wears longer, does less damage to the equipment, can be run without a water flush, and is easy to maintain.
The benefit to using this type of product in the pulp and paper industry is that pumps no longer need to have flush water piped in to keep the packing cool and lubricated. This means that less water can get into the actual process that has to be recovered through drying or other means. This packing is virtually leak-free, which means a cost saving is incurred in the maintenance department, and also in the effluent area of the plant from a waste treatment cost point of view.
