New Solutions for Drying Limited Machines, 1998 Engineering Conference Proceedings

Despite major advances in most areas of paper machine design, the dryer section with its steam heated cast iron dryers remains largely unchanged. Higher machine speeds and the single tier designs found on newer machines result in lengthy dryer sections. Two technologies which offer high drying capacity and more compact dryer sections are the gas heated paper dryer (GHPD) and high velocity hood (HVH). The results of pilot and commercial installations of both technologies are presented showing that drying rates several times those of conventional steam heated cylinders can be achieved.
