Velocity Profile of Fiber Suspension Flow in a Channel, 2001 Engineering / Finishing & Converting Conference Proceedings
H. Xu, C. Aidun--Pulsed Ultrasonic Doppler Velocimetry (PUDV) has been evaluated and applied to the velocity profile
measurement of fiber suspension channel flow. Experiments show PUDV is an accurate, noninvasive
method for velocity profile measurement of fiber suspension flow. The measurement has high repeatability
and is sensitive to small changes in velocity. By selecting suitable measuring parameters, PUDV can be
used to measure fiber suspension flow up to a velocity comparable to the papermaking process.
The study of the fiber suspension channel flow shows five types of flow regimes in the fiber concentration-
flow rate parameter space. The flow characteristics found in this study can be used to explain the
inconsistent results reported in the literature.
