Identifying and Preventing Vacuum Problems in the Press Section, 2001 Engineering / Finishing & Converting Conference Proceedings

D. F. Sweet--On many paper machines, more than half of the vacuum system capacity is connected to the press. These include services such as the suction pick-up, suction press, uhle boxes, transfer rolls and anti-blow boxes. There are common problems, related to system design and operation, which can be corrected. This paper will review typical problems, their effect on the press operation, sheet and felt moisture, vacuum system performance, and propose practical solutions.
