Corrosion tests of the superheater tubes for recovery boilers were conducted, using a test apparatus capable of controlling
gas temperature and metal temperature individually, to study the effects of potassium and chlorine ash concentrations on
corrosion.
The results show that the corrosion rate increases due to increases of potassium and chlorine ash concentrations at relatively
low temperature, where corrosion due to molten salt does not occur directly.
From scale analysis results after the corrosion tests, it is inferred that formation of chloride compounds at the metal side of
scale promotes corrosion.
