Optimizing Winder Performance, 2001 Engineering / Finishing & Converting Conference Proceedings

M. Daul--The winder is an important production machine that affects the appearance and runnability of the paper mill’s shipped rolls at the printer or converter. Yet, in many cases the winder receives very little attention and minimum maintenance. On the other hand, some mills do an excellent job of getting the most performance out of the winder.

With budget restraints and tight capital money a winder rebuild or replacement may be out of the picture, however optimizing what you have is typically only a matter of awareness, maintenance, determining problems, causes, and sometimes training. Winding Specialists from manufacturers or independent firms can work with mill personnel to pinpoint areas to be addressed.
