A study was conducted to evaluate the compatibility of different plastic materials to various chemicals commonly used in a chlorine dioxide bleaching plant. Characterization of test specimens were conducted after continuous exposure in an actual manufacturing operation for a period of up to six months shows that CPVC and ECTFE provide suitable protection against corrosion to many aggressive chemicals under a wide range of process conditions. Information gathered from this study will hopefully assist designers and plant personal in the proper selection of improved materials for use in bleaching facilities.
