Prediction of Aerated Lagoon Temperature to Evaluate the Potential Impact on Biological Activity Treating Pulp Mill Wastewater, 2000 Environmental Conference Proceedings

- K. Munirathinam, D. Weeden -- A temperature evaluation study was conducted for the Buckeye Florida wastewater treatment facility, located in Perry, Florida. A temperature model was used to evaluate the impact of potential increases in temperature of the wastewater influent and to predict the liquid temperature of the aerated lagoon where the highest temperature for biological treatment would be experienced. This evaluation was necessary to determine if a future temperature increase would negatively impact the biological efficiency in the treatment lagoon. Based on the evaluation, it was estimated that the future increase in influent wastewater temperature of 6 degrees F could increase the aerated lagoon temperature to approximately 105 degrees to 106 degrees F during the warmest parts of the year. An increase in aeration power level had a minimal impact on temperature loss in the lagoon liquid temperature.
