The simulation technique is robust and can be applied to complicated mill process configurations. Predicted VOC and TRS emissions from process simulations have been applied in developing alternative control strategies. The emission impact of installing a new washer, chip meter, and condensate segregation strategies to optimize the size of a condensate stripper to meet MACT standards have been discussed. The simulation methodology has been accepted by regulatory agencies and is shown to achieve significant capital cost reductions.
