Keys to Success for ISO 14000 Implementation, 2000 Environmental Conference Proceedings
- T. Moorman, N. McDonnell -- Appleton Paper's West Carrollton mill successfully implemented an ISO 14001 program in late 1998 and early 1999. The mill produces carbonless paper in roll form for later printing by forms printers. The mill chose to implement ISO 14001 to increase environmental stewardship, meet a corporate goal of establishing an EMS, and comply with their parent company's request of adherence to the ISO 14000 standard. The mill achieved ANSI*RAB accredited certification in March of 1999. Included in this presentation are the following topics: Brief overview of the ISO 14001 standard, discussion of the Core Team (implementation team), criteria used to select a consultant and registrar, EMS implementation steps, key hurdles, a display of the program itself as seen on the mill's intranet, and post-certification implications.
