Utilizing RCO Technology for Effective VOC Control, 2001 Environmental Conference Proceedings
Michael Connell--The ABTco/LP Alpena hardboard facility installed a Regenerative Catalytic Oxidizer in 1997 to control odors from a process dryer. After working with the manufacturer to develop a proper pre-filter and catalyst, the system has achieved removal efficiencies of 97%+. These removal efficiencies were achieved at 425C (800F) in the combustion chamber as opposed to 815C - 870C (1500F - 1600F) typically required in a Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer (RTO). The RCO continues to operate with a high degree of reliability with minimum impact on the facility’s operation. The RCO technology is an effective VOC control when designed and installed with the proper pre-filter system.
