Benchmarking the Movement Toward Sustainability in Secondary Fiber Systems - PT 2: How Does Your Mill Compare to Similar Mills, 2001 Environmental Conference Proceedings
Allan Springer, Dennis Walendzak--This is the second of a two part series of papers that summarizes the thesis work done by Dennis Walendzak on developing a tool that will help paper mills move toward sustainability. In the first paper we explored the sustainability index and in this paper we explore the value and use of the sustainability database. The database contains data from many types of mills but most of the data concerns recycled linerboard/ corrugating mills and deinked ONP mills. The parameters listed in the data base are water usage, BOD, COD, TSS, AOX, Color, TRS, HAPS, NOx, SOx, solid waste generated and energy use both total and purchased. This data can be used to see how your mill’s values compare to that of other mills. Each mill should strive to improve their performance and match or exceed the best values.
