Sequential Anaerobic/Aerobic Biological Treatment of Bleaching Wastewaters, 1990 Environmental Conference Proceedings

A study of sequential anaerobic and aerobic biological treatment has been undertaken to further develop this process for removal of chlorinated organics from bleaching wastewaters. The previous uses of the process and current understanding of anaerobic dehalogenation are reviewed. Results of the experimental program are presented, which indicate modest improvements in adsorbable Organics Halide (AOX) removal with the sequential process, but also indicate significant toxicity of the wastewater to the anaerobic microbial community.
