Toxicity Treatability Evaluations for Two Bleached Kraft Pulp Mills, 1992 Environmental Conference Proceedings

Two west coast bleached kraft pulp mills (Louisiana-Pacific Corporation in Samoa, California, and Simpson Paper Company in Fairhaven, California) are jointly conducting Toxicity Reduction Evaluations (TREs) to satisfy regulatory

requirements. A TRE is a site-specific study designed to identify, select, and implement a program to achieve com-pliance with permit toxicity requirements. An integral part of the LP/Simpson TRE is a Toxicity Treatability Evaluation (TTE), which is the subject of this paper. TTE objectives are to identify, evaluate, and confirm a feasible wastewater treatment technology, or combination of technologies, capable of reducing effluent toxicity to compliance levels.
