Application of Thermal Desorption - GC/MS With Multisorbent Tubes in the Analysis of Air Toxic Organic Emissions in Ambient Air, 1992 Environmental Conference Proceedings

Compliance with the 1990 Amendments to the Clean Air Act have required industry to measure and control the amount of volatile organic compounds emitted to the atmosphere. Several methods compiled by the USEPA are used as guidelines. Toxic Organic Methods, TO1 and T02, outlined in the "Compendium of Methods for the Determination of Toxic Organic Compounds in Ambient Air" are most widely used. These methods require that an air sample be collected at a test site and trapped on a sorbent bed. Analysis is then performed using thermal desorption and gas chromatography/mass spectroscopy.
