Operating Experience With Constructed Wetland Treatment Systems, 1992 Environmental Conference Proceedings
Constructed wetlands are being utilized to provide wastewater management for a variety of municipal, industrial, and runoff wastewaters. This use is based on over 20 years of research describing the water quality enhancement attributes of wetlands and particularly their assimilation of carbonaceous and nitrogenous wastes. This assimilation potential is attractive for applications where a land intensive, "natural" treatment technology is desired and where ancillary wildlife benefits enhance a project’s overall environmental balance sheet. Experience from existing constructed wetland treatment systems and data assembled in a wetland treatment system data base may be useful for implementing a wetland treatment alternative for wastewater management in the pulp and paper industry.
