Anaerobic/Aerobic Treatment Of NSSC/CTMP Effluent And Biogas Utilization, 1992 Environmental Conference Proceedings
The Bathurst Division of Stone- onsolidated Inc. operates an Anaerobic/Aerobic wastewater treatment plant a t its NSSC/CTMP mill in Bathurst, New Brunswick. The system consists of a conditioning tank, two upflow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) reactors and an aeration polishing basin. The treated mill effluent meets provincial and federal environmental regulations for BODs and is not acutely lethal to rainbow trout. The biogas produced in the anaerobic stage is utilized as drying fuel in the CTMP Flakt flash dryers. This paper discusses the experience acquired during start-up and full scale operation. The operating data and the positive results achieved will be reviewed.
